I am sure you’ve all heard this before, in the office, in the kitchen, on TV or in a street conversation: “Trump is crazy!” “Putin is crazy!” – People are not aware of the objective process of the collapse of The Collective West and blame actions the causes of which they cannot understand to “craziness”. While the situation is simple, both Trump and Putin are preparing their respective safe spaces for the time when the USD Monster will come crashing down.
This cartoon has several layers of meaning. The first that comes to mind is that reasonable control is not “communism”: if you want a country to survive, some reasonable control is needed. The second is that permissiveness does not equal freedom. But what I want to discuss is that the cold war and modern anti-communist and anti-Stalin propaganda is really directed against Russia (there is no such thing as “communism”, it is an abstract). It is easy to call Putin crazy today because the logic is simple: communism is bad and Russians are communists => therefore Russians are bad => Putin does something I do not understand => but we know he is bad because all Russian are bad, therefore he is just doing what they all do – bad crazy things. In Trump’s case they’ve had to come up with reasons on a short notice so they simply called him racist. Racists are bad and Trump is racist => therefore he is just doing bad crazy things as all racists do. Just like Calvin calling his mom “communist” because he does not understand her motives.
